My First Shamanic Drumming Journey

I’m so excited to share with you my first experience with shamanic drum journeying, it was incredibly powerful!

I booked my session at The Retreat which is just outside of Lichfield, and my journey took place in a beautiful room filled with crystals, palo santo burning and all of the things you would expect. My Shaman, Victoria and I had a chat about what I wanted to get from my first journey and how the drumming would progress, along with what I needed to do at each stage. I lay on a deliciously comfortable heated couch with a heated and scented eye covering and away we went!

We started with deep breaths, before the drumming began. I had been instructed to cross a bridge over to a clearing in the woods once the beat changed and found it easy to visualise walking across the bridge, but then everything went black, which I was not expecting.

Soon I began to see neon blue shapes dancing across my vision, before it refined into hundreds of little legs of light walking accros from every direction. I can only describe it as like being in a busy train station and watching everyone go about their business, only they were beings of pure light. After the session I mentioned this to Victoria who explained that there are three realms in shamanism, and that by crossing the bridge on the same level we were working on the middle realm, which is a realm which overlaps ours, and I was simply being given access to perceive all of the other beings that are all around us.

Next I began having thoughts about daily issues come into my mind. I found myself trying to dismiss them and thinking to myself “I’ve come all this way for this experience, why on earth am I thinking about this now?!” And then it hit me. I was resisting, and I needed to allow what was coming up.

Once I did so, a number of messages which are personal to me came up, giving me some really solid guidance going forward. I was also then able to settle back to the place where I was “supposed” to be, where one of my guides sat next to me and gave me more advice. I also met my spirit animal in the clearing, who is an extremely playful wolf.

Once the drum hit three times I knew it was time to wrap up and prepare to head back. Once I was back in the room there was time to lie in peace and really ground myself back into this reality.

Since my journey I’ve felt a real sense of calm and clarity, and my clients have even mentioned that they’ve noticed a new level of intensity to my healing.

My first drumming journey is an experience that I’ll never forget, and I can’t wait to go deeper and deeper with each journey.
